Paper engineering is the cutting, gluing and folding of paper to create books and cards with pop-ups, pull-tabs, flaps and a variety of other moving parts.

The weekly class schedule format will be:
Engineering Paper I:

Monday: Boxes and Layers- Turn two-dimensional paper into a three-dimensional scene.

Tuesday: Stacking Boxes- Pop-up City: Create a three-dimensional city that folds flat.

Wednesday: V Fold- Chomp! Make a moving mouth for a frog, monster, or…

Thursday: Spiral- A beautiful technique that cascades three-dimensionally from one page to another.

Friday: Accordion Book- Add surprise to an accordion book by incorporating pop-up techniques.

Engineering Paper II:
Monday: Advanced Box- Different shapes and different sides
Tuesday: Advanced V Fold- Experiment with different angles and the V Fold.
Wednesday: Tabletop Floating on Boxes
Thursday: X Form- Create an insect or bird with moving wings.
Friday: Blooming Flowers- Build a bouquet of paper flowers that bloom before your eyes.

The Fairfield Art Association’s Art Camp participants show their “Engineering Paper” projects. Artist Alicia Carradus lead the class in designing pop-up-cards, using V folds, spirals, stacks, layers and cuts to create three dimensional scenes including cities, and animals. Each day of the week a different technique was presented to incorporate into artistic accordion books.
